“ Brmm brmm”, the bus goes, as Room 9 and some other students were heading to
AUT Millennium…
22nd Tuesday, some students were getting ready, the roll was called and we all
separated into 4 groups splitting into 2 buses. Aut Millennium was located at
North Shore which was past the city and past the Harbor Bridge. On the way there,
the views were wonderful but it took ages to get there.
Once we reached the Millennium, everyone had a little morning tea snack.
Inside we stepped, passing through, we stopped near the toilets. In my group,
which was group 4, our activities were going to be kayaking, water safety,
team building + exercise & rock climbing. The other groups did that except in a
different order. Group 1 & 2 went outside to do team building
+ exercise & rock climbing while group 3 & 4 did kayaking, water safety.
For group 3 & 4 they got in their togs and sat down on a chair waiting for instructions
from the instructors. The instructors taught us how to put life jackets on and how to
tighten it. When you are in deep water, not really near land or in a boat, you should
have a life jacket on. We walked the opposite side and stood quietly. The instructors
told us the water was really deep but it was okay because we had life jackets.
“ Splash! “, the water goes when someone goes in the water. It felt like I was about to
drown but relieved that I had my life jacket on. We doggy paddled around a little just to
see if it was okay also I couldn’t even touch the floor! We climbed out of the water,
shivering going back to the seats. One of the instructors took Group 3 to water safety
while our group did kayaking.
The other instructor told us to go in the kayak one by one while he pushed the
kayak we were in, into the water. When we were in the water we had to flip the
kayak over as well as ourselves. We also had to bring the kayak out of the pool
and tip all the water out. Next, the instructor gave us oars to paddle the kayak with.
He told us how to use it in the water and to hold it straight when walking on land
so you don’t hit anyone.
He moved each kayak into the water while we tested the kayak. We went backwards
and forwards but on our first try we absolutely didn’t really do it properly.
The instructor taught us how to stop, was by putting the oar in the water also
it turned when you do that.
After, it was water safety, the other instructor told us if there were more people
we would survive longer. If our hair was dry we would also stay alive longer.
She taught us how you can stay warm and how to stay alive. When we finished
that we split into two groups and went onto a mini boat. We had to tip backwards
gently into the water trying not to hit anyone. A person had to go on back,
trying to lift a person up and that person would work together to lift other
people while the rest who just been lifted up would weigh the boat.
After we changed, it was time for lunch! We met back with group 1 & 2 and
everyone looked hungry. Two ladies came in talking about healthy food and
what you should eat every day. There was lots of food there and most of them
were gone afterwards! When we went out of the door they gave us bags that told
us about healthy.
When we all had changed group 3 & 4 went into the gym area.
Group 3 rock climbing so that means group 4 had to do team building
+ exercise. We ran outside to the track and it was humongous!
We did some exercises to warm everyone up then we ran, jogged,
skipped and went sideways on part of the track. Soon after, we had a relay
doing random things such as riding a pretend pony, running and other things.
We went back inside and had a drink of water, getting reading for team building.
We pretended we were little itty bitty dust trying to go past a huge cup of hot chocolate.
We used 5 “ marshmallows “ trying to get to the other side. The conclusion was to piggy
bank on each other.
When that was done, we did rock climbing split into a group of 3. There was a choice of
11 rock climbs. I did 2 of the rock climbs through. Everyone met outside and got ready
for a photo then went back on the bus. I hope I get to do it again!
